THE most complete collection of Dartmouth prints ever received by the College was on special exhibition at the Carpenter Art Galleries during Commencement and Reunion Week. The collection is the gift of Mrs. John R. Mason of Woodstock, Vt., in memory of her late husband, a prominent member of the Class of 1915 and former vice-president of the Millville Manufacturing Co., Millville, N. J.

The 84 items, valued at $2500, include paintings, drawings and photos that date back to Dartmouth's beginning in the 18th century. Among the items on display were a Currier and Ives print of Dartmouth Row and a lithograph done by a convicted forger, Christian Meadows, in 1851 while he was serving a sentence in Vermont State Prison. The earliest known rendering of the campus, which appeared in the Massachusetts Magazine in the 1790's, is also in the collection.

A special invitation to view the exhibition was extended to the Class of 1915 which was in Hanover for its 45th Reunion.

John R. Mason '15, whose name the collection bears, was a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, 1948-52, and chairman of its Alumni Fund Committee, 1948-50. He served as 1915's class agent for four years and was president of the Class Agents Association in 1947-48. Mr. Mason also was 1915's class president from 1950 to 1955, and among other Dartmouth services he was on the Development Council and was an overseer of the Hanover Inn from 1951 to 1954.
