Down to the Jersey Shore I drove to fish the shores and rocks from Barnegat to Asbury Park. Did it alone, and had great sport with the Blue Fish using spinning equipment. Brought home a dozen to bake. Seems mean to leave a large family for "clam digging," but they all like me so much better after visits with nature. And, brother, does it get me off the grinding edge.
From 19 Pine Tree Lane in Albany, N. Y., Pete Bsmiet writes that the 64-year-old family business has established a branch plant in North Carolina, and the boys, Hank, 16, and Tom, 14, are high schooling it with Hank looking at colleges and Tom at girls. Carolyn is at Art School in New York and Roy, 14, is a football center like the old man and plays catcher in the Babe Ruth League. Lou reports seeing Graham White, now at Philip Morris, also Clark Mattimore,John Tower, Gene Waggaman and WrightMallory. He says that the Rev. Bob Harvey may relocate back in Jersey. The Fricks will be at reunion, they hope.
The sophomore IDC man on the cover of last month's issue was Tucky Mays '65, son of Whitey Mays, president' of the Morgan-Jones Co. that makes those handsome bedspreads among other things. Whitey, we hear, shot a good round of golf in Hanover last month.
The Gorman with the Irish Patrick before it is shouting with gusto the priceless values of Schlitz beer from Milwaukee where he is Director of Advertising for Joe's famous brewery. Young Pat recently returned from Australia following a hitch on a Swedish freighter. Joan, 20, is at the U. of Florence, Italy, and Mari in the theater in New York. Gay carries on in high school. Our Pat saw Bob Kelly out on the Coast, and the Gorman says he will be at reunion just to see how many are as bald as Hosmer.
Fred von Pechmann is a senior at Loomis where he's tackle on the pigskin squad, while Lisa is a senior in Hartford, Connecticut's Conrad High School where she plays the French horn. Both report to the Baron and Ellie on cash problems. The elder von tells us that Sox and Becky Calder and Dick and Evelyn Francis have visited them.
From 25 Highland Street in Hopedale, Mass., comes good word from George andLela Porter, both of whom have a good understanding of basic living by being in the shoe manufacturing business. (Corn.) There are three Porter daughters: Gail, 14, Carol, 10, and Anne, 9. Mother and dad are taking a sculpturing course at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston; while mother is also working for a master's. They'll be there in June. Art King has it all over this King. He can be reached at Box 4, North Springfield, Vt., where he runs a music studio and teaches sharps and flats at Vermont Academy. The four boys are David, Hanover freshman; Steve. Vermont Academy; Howard, 13, Junior High; and Pete in first grade. No bowl of cherries, life to Art Soule is just a series of raisins: "Raisin' hell; raisin' kids, and raisin' money." The latter is a real chore right now for Art as he's in charge of putting the Class over the $500,000 total giving program since graduation. That means raisin' a lot of hay between now and June. Art has traveled many miles recently to get this campaign going. You've heard about it and will be hearing more from Dawkins and me as the months roll on. This year, pal, we gotta' get it up . . . and we will. Art has Mallory, Reeve, Reno, Walls, Colton and Mays helping him on the task, and each one of us is going to be expected to get into this act. Anyway, Art is still in the fuel oil business, and, he says: "Instead of wine, women and song; it's metrecal, same ole gal, and swingin' along with Mitch." Colin MacLeod Jr. is a man of few words, even if it's part done for him on a questionnaire ... but we're glad to hear the few words, Colin. He's raising horses, and I think, running them. There is a son, Colin Bruce, 2, and Pop has seen his old roommate, Yokichi Fujiyama. He hopes to get to reunion.
You were all swell to write so promptly. I have a lot more for next month in the old shoe box. Remember now: Try hard to give generously to the 25th Fund and by all means get to reunion whether you are able to give or not.
