A recent bulletin from Dawk to members of the Executive Committee contains news of general interest; some of it will be given in more detail in the Pacesetter, but here is the gist of it:

Clark Barrett has been appointed Chairman of our Thirtieth Reunion coming up much sooner than we would all like to think. Plans are even now being formulated so that it will be a gala occasion.

Arrangements have been made for a cocktail and dinner party on the Saturday of the Penn game here in Hanover. Details will be forthcoming in the Pacesetter together with advance reservation forms as required by the Inn.

The name of Tom McGrath has been added to the Executive Committee by a recent appointment made by Dawk.

Dawk also sends congratulations to PaulUrion for his election to the Alumni Council and to Bob Manegold for his reelection.

The Universal Packaging Corporation of Bow, N. H., has announced expansion plans. The company's total marketing effort will be expanded under the direction of William P.Lyle Jr. as vice president - marketing. Bill is a veteran of 25 years in the packaging business. His previous connections were with Nashua Corp., Nashua, as General Sales Manager of the Flexible Packaging Division and for the last seven years with International Paper Company's folding carton division where he was Divisional Sales Manager and Assistant General Manager of the Cincinnati, Ohio, plant.

Textile Banking Company, Inc. has appointed Alexander Jones as district sales manager of the company's recently established new business department. Alex, who was formerly with the Walter E. Heller & Co. factoring firm, has also been with the Hess Goldsmith Division of Burlington Industries. Bliss Kirby Thorne has been named Senior Editor of Airline Management and Marketing magazine. The author will assume full duties when he completes his next book, a comprehensive study of international space projects.

Recently had a very pleasant visit with the Charley Mann family of Topsfield, who are interested in placing their second son, also Charley, in a good prep school next fall. The oldest girl, Leland, is now at Colby Jr.; the older boy, George, is in the Coast Guard; and the younger daughter is still in public school in Topsfield. Charley is managing a chemical company, George Mann & Co., in Stoneham, Mass.

A nice letter from Carl A. Raymond Jr. recounts his deep satisfaction with his second career as an administrator in municipal government, upon completion of his Navy service. He was recently appointed city treasurer of Charlotte, N. C., where formerly he was an assistant in the city manager's office. He retired from the Navy with the rank of captain. "My wife, Betty, and I thoroughly enjoy being full-fledged civilians in Charlotte. Only one other '38'er, Charlie Main, lives in Charlotte, but we have enjoyed seeing him and his charming wife, Marjorie."

Hans W. Barber has been appointed superintendent of production for the New England Department of Employers' Group of Insurance Companies. Hans joined the Employers' in 1953. Since that time he has served as fire state agent in New Haven, Conn., and later as assistant regional superintendent of the New England Fire Department. From 1958 to the present, he has held various positions in the home office, including superintendent of the home office education department, with his most recent position territorial director, home office agency.

Through the courtesy of R. H. Chittim '30 of Hinsdale, Ill., I learn that TelferMook of the United Church Board for World Ministries, was guest preacher in that town. Tel supervises the programs and work of missionaries of the United Church Board for World Ministries who serve in schools, churches, hospitals, and social service centers in India and Ceylon.

Gil Tains' son, Bill, has been accepted at Dartmouth, as well as Brown and Princeton, and is going to spend most of the summer in Luxembourg and Switzerland through The Experiment in International Living and other auspices. As a matter of fact, I haven't any way at the moment of keeping track of sons of '38, but it appears that a good many of them have followed in their fathers' footsteps here in Hanover. It is amusing to me to hear of the fathers exerting no pressure and, in fact, bending over backward not to influence the youngsters and then have them choose Dartmouth after all. The College must still be doing something right.
