PLANS for the Convocation on The Arts, climax of the events marking the opening of the Hopkins Center, were completed last month with the announcement of a lecture on the crafts and of a formal banquet in Alumni Hall, to be attended, among others, by the distinguished creative and performing artists who are participating in the inaugural program or are serving on the Hopkins Center advisory groups for theater, music, rt, and the crafts. The four-day convocation, November 15-18, will be the culmination of eleven days of concerts, Players' performances, lectures and discussions, exhibitions, and dedication ceremonies, beginning on November 8.
The lecture on the craft arts will be given Friday, November 16, by Meyric R. Rogers of Yale University, curator of the Garvan and Related Collections of American Decorative Arts. Other lectures in the convocation series will be given by Michel St. Denis, theater director; Hans Hofmann, the artist; and Pier Luigi Nervi, the Italian engineer and architect, who designed Dartmouth's new field house. An informal talk by Leland Hayward, theatrical producer, may also be included.
Dartmouth Trustee Charles J. Zimmerman '23, national chairman of the capital gifts campaign that raised funds for the $7,500,000 Hopkins Center, will be toastmaster at the Alumni Hall banquet on Saturday night, November 17. It will be a black-tie affair preceding the symphony concert and the play Danton's Death scheduled for that evening.
The complete program for Hopkins Center's inaugural festival will be found on Page 29 of this issue.
