William C. Hands Jr. '14 received the accolade of Class Chairman of the Year at the annual gathering of Dartmouth class officers in Hanover last month. In presenting the award, Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, read the following citation:
As your class approaches its 50th Reunion, the College recognizes a very strong 1914, which other classes would do well to emulate in terms of activity. The Sunbird Reunions held annually in Florida have been a source of pleasure to many of your classmates, and you have been a guiding force behind this Dartmouth gathering. It is just one example of your leadership, leaving no doubt that the Class of 1914 is in good hands.
Just as you have been active in community affairs in Rutherford, N. J., so have you been deeply interested in Dartmouth activities throughout the years. Now that you have retired from business, you have, found even more time to devote to the College. The name Hands, however, is becoming a Dartmouth tradition. Your son was graduated in 1941 and now a nephew is due to graduate at the time of your 50th Reunion in two years.
We are delighted to present the award of Class Chairman of the Year to one so fully deserving, who has freely given his time and energy to build a stronger class and a stronger college. When 1914 chose Bill Hands as chairman they made the right choice and we hope you will continue to guide your class for many years to come.
