The tennis team continues to lead all spring teams with its outstanding record. With only two matches remaining Coach Red Hoehn's players are sporting a 12-5 mark. Besides the two contests lost to North Carolina in March, the tennis team lost its annual matches to the Big Three, Harvard, 8-1, Yale 5-4, and Princeton 6-1.
Gordie Aydelott has run his personal record to 14-3 as he continues to hold down the number two position on the team. Dave Smoyer is now 11-6 in sinoles competition and has teamed with John Morrison for a successful doubles record. Morrison has moved up to the number six position on the team and has compiled a 5-1 mark, while in doubles competition he stands 11-2.
The Indians can well be proud of their 1962 showing for already victories have been registered against Army 5½-3½, Penn 6-3, Brown 6½-2½, Colgate 6-3, Columbia 9-0, Middlebury 8-1, and M.I.T. 7-2.
Against the Big Three, the Green came closest to upsetting Yale. Aydelott won his match 8-6, 6-4, Doug Floren eked out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win, and Morrison dropped Brooks of Yale 8-6, 6-4, and then teamed with Smoyer for the Indians' only doubles point. Captain Jim Biggs gained the only win in the Harvard match with 6-1, 6-1 sets.
