As I write this copy, it's Labor Day weekend, signalling a quickening of the pace which, thank God, eases off somewhat during July and August, and also the end of the vacation season. Vacation was somewhat exhausting for me, but also rewarding, as I visited classmates from Fort Lauderdale to Houston to Minneapolis and home again. My cup overfloweth with news, however, so the report on the men I saw must await future columns.

Other Class gatherings are coming up in the near future. You'll have to read CharlieBreed's Class Newsletter for the details, which aren't available as I write this. An informal Fall Reunion is planned for the Holy Cross weekend (Oct. 19-20) in Hanover, with Al Karcher in charge. John Hatch and Charlie Hood are cooking something up in connection with the Harvard game (Oct. 26), while Hank Sanders is in charge of arrangements for the Yale game (Nov. 2).

In June we reported that the Class Executive Committee was seeking broader geographic representation. We can now report six new Committeemen from five areas not recently represented: from Boston, JohnHatch and Charlie Hood; from Minneapolis, Jim Rogers; from Denver, Bob Fullerton; from San Francisco, Jim Danaher; and from Los Angeles, John Sargeant.

While we're on the subject of the Executive Committee, Class Chairman HerbKnight has fled the bachelor ranks. The lucky girl is Nancy Chadwell, and the knot was tied on June 29 in Winnetka, Ill. Herb is also the new secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Chicago.'

As for occupational news, we lead off this month with our medics. Orthopedic surgeon Jim Eldredge has hung out his shingle in Hyannis, Mass. (Expecting some business out of those touch football games, Jim?) Jim served his residency at Children's, Massachusetts General and Peter Bent Brigham Hospitals in Beantown and has been a Teaching Fellow at Harvard Medical.

General surgeon Jim Keegan has gone into practice in Milford. Conn. A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, he served both his internship and residency at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Jim is married to the former Joan Monturi and has two children, Jo Ann, 5, and David, 3.

Internist Bob Brod is finally out of Uncle Sam's Navy, where he was most recently stationed at the Jacksonville (Fla.) Naval Hospital. Bob is now associated with the Media (Pennsylvania) Clinic. He, wife Joan, and three children have taken up residence in the suburban Philadelphia area.

Rog Des Prez, a specialist in pulmonary diseases, is now in Nashville, Tenn., where he is associate professor of medicine at Vanderbilt and chief of medical services at the V.A. Hospital. Rog got his M.D. from Columbia, did postgraduate work at New York Hospital, and has been on the faculty of Cornell University Medical College in New York City.

Our legal scholars are also on the move. Jeff O'Connell, recently promoted to associate professor at lowa State, is back East on a year's leave as associate director of a foundation-sponsored Harvard Law School study of the present system for compensating automobile accident victims. A torts specialist, Jeff also taught at Northwestern this summer. He is married and has two small children.

Mike Heyman has returned to his old stamping ground in New Haven as visiting professor at the Yale Law School. Mike is teaching real property, a seminar in land use planning, and has responsibility under the Yale divisional program. In addition to property, he has taught constitutional law and federal jurisdiction at the University of California at Berkeley.

Mike and wife Theresa report the recent arrival of their second son, James Nathaniel. The first, Stephen Thomas, is now two and a half. Mike also reports that Mish Cohen, who teaches philosophy at the University of Chicago, stopped by on his way to UCLA, where he conducted a summer course, and that Mo Monahan has been at Berkeley doing advanced work in educational administration.

Dave Emerson has been appointed assistant professor of chemistry at the Dearborn Center of the University of Michigan. Dave had been a research chemist with Shell Oil in Texas. Bob Caterson is now teaching French at Rye (N.Y.) High School.

Back in June, I had two occasions to be in Hanover less than a week apart. In between, I ventured down to Cape Cod and stopped in to see Tom Brown. Tom and wife Betsey operate tourist light housekeeping cottages at Beach Point, North Truro (on the way to Provincetown).

With sons Bill, 12, and Tom. 10, they live in Pamet Harbor, Truro. To make up for the short season, Tom has a part interest in a coin-operated laundry, sells decorative tiles, and would be happy to represent other ventures in the Cape area.

From Lake Bluff, Ill., Chip Blomgren reports that he is Vice President of Von Toll Designs, Inc. and another company and director of a third. Chip and wife Priscilla have two children. Chipper, 10, and Teri, 8. From out Los Angeles way, Pete Mann announces that wife Tita (Wheaton '53) has presented him with their fourth child, second son. Pete "peddles" Chevies.

Bill Rowe was recently named Assistant Controller of the Toni Company, division of Gillette. In June, Bill received his M.B.A. from Northeastern University in Boston, having picked up the last third of the necessary credits at Northwestern in Chicago after his transfer there. Bill and wife Mae live in suburban Park Ridge with children Gail, 9, and Bruce, 7.

Bob Meyer is now a sales representative working out of New York for Hennepin Paper Co., Little Falls, Minn. Bob had been associated with Bowater Paper Co. of England. Andy Pincus is the new editor of the Bernardsville (N.J.) News. Andy had previously worked for the Newark (N.J.) News and as a freelance writer and PR man.

We were happy to learn that somebody in the Class besides you know who in Chicago can sell over a $1,000,000 in life insurance in one year. Steve Balogh of Detroit made the grade in 1962 for New York Life.

Mel Walsh has been with Aetna Life almost since graduation, in Hartford, Conn.; Des Moines, Iowa; Portland, Ore,; and finally back to Boston, where he is now an office manager. Mel, wife Jo, and four daughters, Debbie, 7; Chrissie, 4; Laurie, 3; and Julie, not yet one, live in suburban Abington.

Then we have some promotions to report. Dave Saxton of Winston-Salem, N.C., is now assistant manager of the New Product Development Division of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco. Ned Hoeppner is the new district sales manager, LaGrange District, for Illinois Bell. Ned and wife Maurine reside in Glen Ellyn with their three children, Charles, 6; Mary, 3; and Susan, 1.

New Yorker Hank Nachman has been named Marketing Manager of the Commerce Drug Co. division of Maradel Products, Inc. Hank was formerly a Senior Account Executive with Grey Advertising.

George Bissell was elected president of the Boston Security Analysts Society in June. "Suds" covers oil and gas for Massachusetts Investors Trust and Massachusetts Investors Growth Stock Fund. Bob Jackson is secretary of the California Mortgage Bankers' Association. Bob, loan manager of the San Diego office of Coldwell, Banker and Co., is also vice-president of the San Diego Mortgage Bankers' Association.
