In the Business and Society course
OCTOBER 1963

In the Business and Society course, given at Tuck School by Prof. Wayne Broehl, distinguished leaders in American industry visit the course to lecture and take part in class discussions. A guest speaker in May was Thomas Sunderland (second from left), president of the United Fruit Company, who is shown with Professor Broehl and two second-year students. After speaking informally about certain management programs and policies, Mr. Sunderland was questioned about the international responsibilities of a U. S. firm operating in Latin America. U. S. companies are very much aware of these responsibilities, he said, and in the case of United Fruit he described some of the ways in which taxes, wages, employees of host countries, housing, and community benefits are related to the effort to be concerned with social good as well as business success.
