On May 21 the 1963 Alumni Fund campaign was running two and one half weeks ahead of the record-breaking pace set in 1962, according to Chairman Charles F. Moore Jr. '25. On that date the 1963 dollar total reached $700,000, a point that was not attained until June 7 last year.
In terms of dollars rather than time, the 1963 Fund on May 21 was some $110,000 over the 1962 figure, and the 1963 contributor total of 10,064 was 681 donors ahead. Chairman Moore hailed the 1963 results as directly attributable to the efforts of the 3,300 Class Agents and 60 Head Class Agents. "I am optimistic," said Mr. Moore, "that June 30 will see the 1963 campaign substantially over its $1,250,000 goal. This will be a singular achievement in itself, but it will also be important in allowing Dartmouth to go forward with confidence in the knowledge that alumni and friends are aware of the past, interested in the present, and concerned for the future."
Much more hard work by the Fund Committee and Class Agents is essential to assure that these words be fulfilled. A June mailing features a report on Baker Library and the William Jewett Tucker Foundation, activities supported by the Fund. This brochure will be followed by a final reminder mailing and in the closing days by a telephone campaign in Boston and New York.
The campaign officially closes on June 30 and final totals will be reported one month later. The 1962 campaign fell short of the $1,250,000 goal by a scant three percent with a final total of $1,215,740.
