The greatest concentration of construction activity this summer will be at the Gilman Bio-Medical Center where the Dana Bio-Medical Library is being completed and the construction is getting underway on the Charles Gilman Life Science Laboratory. The five-story brick laboratory for instruction and research will adjoin the Medical Science Building and is scheduled for use a year from next fall. Other smaller projects are all concerned with existing structures. An office and research room for the College's Development Office is being added on the north side of Crosby Hall. Fairbanks Hall, now north of the Library and in front of the new Gerry Hall, will be moved across campus and attached to Sanborn Lane House in back of Massachusetts Row. Fairbanks will continue to house Dartmouth College Films.
The basement of McNutt Hall is being renovated to accommodate the College's tabulation center; and the three administrative departments that use the machines often, the Registrar, the Bursar, and the Comptroller, will also move to new quarters in McNutt. The Registrar will be in the basement and the other two on the first level. The Office of Admissions, now in Sanborn Lane House, and the Office of Financial Aid, now in Parkhurst, will come together on the second floor of McNutt. The Office of Student Counseling will move from McNutt to Sanborn Lane House, Placement will go into Fairbanks, and the Education Department to Wentworth Hall.
Work also is set for the interior of College and Robinson Halls to provide additional space for student organizations and new College Hall offices for the William Jewett Tucker Foundation, again as a result of moves to Hopkins Center. A new $70,000 organ, made by the Austin Organ Company and donated by Basil F. Austin '3l of Hartford, Conn., in memory of his father, will be installed in Rollins Chapel.
