The class of 1908 had a very enjoyable and memorable 55th reunion on June 14-16 with 34 members present out of 95 living members, over one-third of the class. The total present, including wives, widows, children, grandchildren, and guests, numbered 69. Headquarters was in Hitchcock Hall but there were so many requests for first floor rooms that some were quartered in nearby Gile and Russell Sage Halls.
The first grouping was in the tent on Friday afternoon for cocktails, reminiscences, and good fellowship. Most attended an excellent and pleasing" concert that evening in the Spaulding Auditorium in the Hopkins Center by the Glee Club, including an octet by the Injunaires and a piano recital.
Saturday morning many joined in a tour of the Hopkins Center and were greatly impressed by the many and varied interests available to the students, Hanover residents, and nearby communities, so lacking in our time, especially in music, fine arts, and manual facilities.
At noon all repaired to the Outing Club-house at Occum Pond for a class meeting followed an hour later by the class dinner in the dining room at the clubhouse. The class meeting was conducted by chairman Soule while the ladies met for a gab fest.
The report of the nominating committee was given by Park Stlckney recommending that the following class officers be reelected: Chairman, Arthur Soule; Vicechairman, Lauris Treadway; Secretary, Laurence Symmes; Treasurer, Arthur Barnes; Head Class Agent, Arthur Lewis; Bequest Chairman, Warren Currier; News Editor and Historian, Sydney Ruggles. Reports of the secretary and treasurer were given by the secretary, Larry Symmes and verbal reports of their activities were given by Art Lewis and Warren Currier. Chairman Soule commended secretary Symmes, head agent Lewis, chairman Currier and news editor Ruggles for their efficient work for the class during the past five years.
Following the class meeting the men met with the ladies for cocktails until dinner was announced. Miss Gill and her staff served a very tasty roast beef dinner which was graced by the presentation of a birthday cake for our genial class chairman who attained 77 years on the following day. In the absence of our clergymen a memorial service was conducted by the class historian. With all standing in tribute, Sydney read the names of the 35 classmates who have passed away since our 50th reunion leading with Malcolm Stearns and ending with Captain Henry Lyons who passed away on May 30 and had not been previously reported. He added that Bion B. Libby, who has been listed as "not interested," passed away on March 25, 1953.
Saturday afternoon was spent by most at headquarters in Hitchcock Hall with singing led by Jack Childs '09 and his banjo." At 5:30 the class adjourned in a body to the Leverone Field House for the Alumni Dinner and the Alumni Meeting. Miss Gill estimates that 3800 partook of the dinner and yet there was plenty of room for the meeting on the other half of the huge arched structure.
Many of the group attended the presentation of Archibald MacLeish's "J. B." in the Hopkins Center theater in the evening. Sunday was mostly a series of goodbys but many attended the Commencement exercises on the Baker Library lawn where 694 seniors received their degrees.
Those who attended the reunion were: A. G. Alden and brother, Cleveland and Christine Amidon and his guests, Dr. and Mrs. Ashley; Mrs. George Baine and her son George '41 and wife; Mrs. Gordon Blanchard; Roland Chesley; Harold Cogs-well; Sumner and Melvina Crosby; Howard Cowee; Ralph and Mary Currier, daughter and grandson; Warren and Jessie Currier; T.
