JULY 1963

Members of the Class of 1938 have contributed more than half a million dollars to the College, it was announced to the record-setting members of the 1938 family attending the class's 25th reunion banquet.

President Dickey was there to accept a symbolic check for $512,600 from Arthur F. Soule of New York and Ewart G. Walls Jr. of Hartford, Conn., cochairmen of the Class of 1938 25th Year Fund. President Dickey expressed the appreciation of the College for what he termed "this unique achievement in voluntary support of the College by an outstanding alumni class."

The $512,600 total has been given by more than 500 classmates, parents, and friends and includes $125,000 in gifts raised by the Class during its 25th reunion year from 425 donors. This amount is the largest achieved by any Dartmouth class fund effort in a single year.

Included in the total was $200,000 given to the annual Dartmouth Alumni Fund, another $200,000 contributed by 1938 to Dartmouth's Capital Gifts Campaign in 1957-59, and over $100,000 given to other current use funds, endowment and plant.

Only two other classes, 1936 and 1937, have exceeded the half million dollar figure in total class giving of all kinds by the time of the 25th reunion year.
