Editorial need for space cancelled the following five paragraphs from '99's July account of their 65th:
"Louis and Mildred Benezet reported a family Memorial Fund planned for Joel, 'especially to inspire in Dartmouth sophomores a capacity for responsibility and concern for others.'
"From Martha Fuller and Montie's Harwinton Church came thanks for '99's contribution 'toward pulpit and lectern paraments.'
"St. Peter's Church-by-the-Sea in York now has as final memorial to Ralph a new pulpit in recognition of his lifetime of service.
"The children and grandchildren of Willand Carrie Hutchinson sent money to the Dartmouth College Library for engineering books. Carrie had died on June 4.
"The Kendall family held final rites for their parents in Kennebunk, Me., on June 20 at 11:00 A.M. Before his death Warren had reconditioned Helen's lifetime Steinway Grand and presented it to their Sarasota Congregational Church. And Samuel Henry Stevens writes that an anonymous giver, in memory of Warren, has substantially increased the annual school awards to both Lebanon High School and Thetford Academy from funds donated originally by Warren and himself jointly."
More information will eventually be available about the memorial for Joel Benezet. The only way to appreciate the beautiful paraments in Montie Fuller's Harwinton Church, or the new pulpit in Ralph Hawkes's church St. Peter's-by-the-Sea, is to visit them personally. Among those present in Kennebunk to pay final honor to Warrenand Helen Kendall were: at the graveside, Tedo Chase's brothers, Fred '05 and Philip '07; and at the home, Dave Parker's widow Esther with sister Ruth and Ralph Hawkes's widow Blanche with granddaughter Debby. And the Class as always sent red roses, tribute to a loyal classmate.
Anne (Mrs. Luther S.) Oakes tried to reach the Class by telephone the morning of the memorial service, but there was some failure in the messenger service. She sent a warm greeting by mail later. Another letter not mentioned earlier was from Fred Walker's son Austin and Eleanor; Austin's brother Stanley '36 and Gladys were present in person.
In November we shall pay tribute to the four Ninety-Niners who left us immediately before or just after the 65th: Charlie Adams's son Herbert Adams '28, May 26; Al Galusha's widow Isabel, June 3; Will Hutchinson's widow Carrie, June 4; Elmer Barstow's daughter Marie Sharp, June 17.
