Alumni College Gets Warm Response
MARCH 1964

The response to our February report on the plans for the first Dartmouth Alumni College, August 16 through 27, has been so heavy that the Planning Committee has deliberately delayed, and may well cancel, a direct mailing to all alumni. The Committee also has approved a modest increase in the size of the "student body" by additions to the faculty.

Areas of study and faculty for the Dartmouth Alumni College are: Prof. James F. Cusick, Current Economic Problems; Prof. Harold L. Bond 42, Literature and Contemporary Affairs; Prof. Timothy J. Duggan, Scienceand Human Values; and Prof. Joseph D. Harris, The Scientific Age. Additional members of the Dartmouth faculty will serve as seminar discussion leaders.

Advance homework consists of the reading of seven books to be sent to the registrant by the College. The daily schedule calls for two hours of lectures and a discussion session of an hour and a half. Afternoons are free for further study or for recreation. Evening programs include plays, concerts, two sessions in the field of international relations given by former Ambassador Ellis O. Briggs '21, wide-screen television of the Democratic convention, special films, and other events. A program for children is being planned.

Charges have been established at $275 per couple and $175 stag, covering tuition, books, tickets for evening events, board in Thayer Hall, and dormitory room.

Alumni who are interested in attending Dartmouth Alumni College should send a deposit of $25 to the Director. (Checks should be made out to Dartmouth College.) A formal reservation form will be sent at that time, followed by the advance reading volumes. Reservations for Alumni College will be held on the basis of the date of receipt of the deposit.

Deposits and all correspondence should be directed to:

J. MICHAEL MCGEAN, Director of Alumni College 205 Crosby Hall, Hanover, New Hampshire
