PROFESSOR LEONARD M. RIESER '44, Deputy Provost of the College and Director of Graduate Study, has been named Dean of the Faculty for Arts and Sciences, a new post resulting from a reorganization of the academic administration of the College.
The principal features of this reorganization will be the establishment of an office of Dean of the Faculty for Arts and Sciences and a closer operating relationship with the three divisions of the faculty of arts and sciences on faculty personnel matters and educational programs by the designation of the chairmen of the Divisions of the Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences as Associate Deans for the Arts and Sciences.
A basic objective of the reorganization which becomes effective July 1, 1964, is to coordinate in one office all administrative responsibilities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for the College's Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Professor Rieser will be responsible to the Provost of the College, John W. Masland, who will continue to have general administrative supervision of all academic offices of the College, under the President. Professor Rieser, as at present, will act for the Provost in the latter's absence, and the Provost will act for the Dean of Faculty for Arts and Sciences in his absence.
