The Alumni Council's highest honor, a Dartmouth Alumni Award, was presented to Osmun Skinner '28 (r) at the annual spring gathering of Dartmouth class officers in Hanover last month. In making the award, Roger C. Wilde '21, chairman of the Council's alumni awards committee, read the following citation:
After graduating from Dartmouth in 1928 and attending one year of law school, you worked as a reporter for the Associated Press, but then changed to investments in New York City. Later, the Van Dyne Oil Company attracted your services in Troy, Pennsylvania, where you settled down with your family - which includes a Dartmouth son, Scott Skinner of the Class of 1964. Throughout this entire period you engaged in numerous civic activities, served in the U. S. Navy as Lieutenant Commander in the last war, and were a founder of the Pennsylvania Petroleum Association of which you are now Vice President and a Director.
Dartmouth College has received the benefit of your devoted and talented good works over the years. You have served as president of your regional Alumni Association, as president of the Dartmouth Secretaries Association, as a member of the Alumni Council, as Class Agent for the Alumni Fund,' and for the past 26 years you have been Secretary of your Class of 1928. In addition to all this you have served for nine years as editor of your Class of '28 newsletter. Years ago, in 1946, you were given the blue ribbon as best Class Secretary. Baker Library has received many rare books through your generosity.
The Dartmouth Alumni Award was created for such men as you who have served, are serving, and will serve the College with special distinction just as you have succeeded in other aspects of your life. It is a privilege to present this Award to you.
