Dartmouth Study Hall, a new venture for the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Cleveland, was inaugurated this past winter and has since been operating with success. Every Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 7:30 at the Friendly Inn Settlement House, 2382 Unwin Road in Cleveland, Dartmouth alumni volunteers serve as proctors during two-hour sessions that provide local children (mainly from a Negro housing development) a place of quiet for serious study. The Study Hall is not intended to be a tutoring program but the alumni proctors are also helpful with studies to some extent.
The Dartmouth men participating in the project serve on a rotation basis, and others are available as substitutes. Bob Binswanger '52 and Bayard Johnson '54 are in charge of this challenging club activity, and reports to date indicate that Dartmouth Study Hall is filling a real need and is giving solid satisfaction to those conducting it.
