Perhaps the dominant Hopkins Center display for the College's current program on Classical and Contemporary Japan is the traditional Japanese garden filling the outdoor sculpture court. It was designed by Kaneji Domoto of New Rochelle, N. Y., landscape architect, and made possible through the generosity of D. Herbert Beskind '36, a collector of Oriental art. The garden may be seen throughout the spring and summer.

Mr. Domoto's garden has a typically subtle Oriental design, with its decorative effect achieved by rock formations, low shrubs, and white sand. The designer made a wide search for the kind of rocks he wanted and found them last fall near the waters of the Wild Ammonoosuc in the White Mountains.
