One of the highlights of the annual banquet of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Cleveland, March 25, was the presentation of a Dartmouth Alumni Award to LeeA. Chilcote '30 (r), shown with President Dickey. On behalf of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, Rupert C. Thompson Jr. '28, 1965 Alumni Fund chairman, conferred the award and read the following citation:
Whether in your chosen field of business, community affairs, or for your beloved College, you have given generously of your valuable time and boundless energy to good causes. For this reason Dartmouth takes pride in saluting you as one of its most able and devoted sons.
You joined the Chilcote Company, manufacturers of paper and cardboard products, in 1931. In 1948 you were named President and Treasurer, and since January 1963 have served as Chairman and Director. Under your leadership you have seen new divisions of the company formed, with expansion and growth on many fronts. Other companies have seen your talents and now list you among their directors.
You have served your city in many ways, including ten years as city councilor, and as Dean, Trustee and now Elder of the Fairmont Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights. But as an alumnus, you have always found time for just one more project in behalf of your Alma Mater. Since graduation you have served in many capacities in which an alumnus can serve: as an Assistant Class Agent in nearly every Alumni Fund campaign since 1935, as an interviewer of candidates for admission, as a member of your class executive committee since 1949, as President of the Cleveland Alumni Association, as Regional Co-Chairman of the Dartmouth Capital Gifts Campaign, and as a member of the Alumni Council, 1954-58, and its Vice-President in 1957-58. You are the father of two Dartmouth sons, Ron '57 and Lee Jr. '64.
For all that you have done and are doing for Dartmouth, and for other public service, it is a privilege for us to honor you, Lee Chilcote, with the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
