The annual meeting of the Association was held at the Denver Country Club on the evening of March 21, 1965. The primary business before the Association was the election of officers. Robert A. Priester'49 was elected president and Donald E.McMichael '53 was elected vice-president. Re-elected to their present offices were Donald C. McKinlay '37, trustee; ThomasC. Seawell '59, secretary; Harry T. LewisJr. '55, treasurer; William E. Murane '54, assistant secretary; and Thomas C. Fead'56, assistant treasurer. President Robert L.Woodberry '54 also announced that Dr. H.Calvin Fisher '32 has been elected to succeed Neil F. Roberts '35 for a term of two years on the Alumni Council.
Our guest of honor was President John Sloan Dickey who spoke on the timely topic of the many qualities required of the modern college professor. President Dickey described today's professor as "an on-going learner capable of generating his own educational experience." In discussing the relationship of teacher to student, he indicated that ideally the life of the college senior should be constituted of ninety per cent learning and only ten per cent teaching. While recognizing the legitimacy of a close personal contact between teacher and student, the President candidly outlined the evils of academic discipleship and avocated strongly the need for the continuing disengagement from the student by his teacher. The President's traditional reminder to students that "your business here is learning' came into considerably sharper focus as a result of his address.
Rupert C. Thompson '28, chairman of the 1965 Alumni Fund, also briefly addressed the Association. We were honored to hear that our annual meeting occasioned Mr. Thompson's first visit to Denver and hope that he will return soon.
Apart from the annual meeting, perhaps the biggest news in our area is the introduction of a new community periodical titled "Denver Magazine." We are proud indeed that Fred Oman '56 constitutes one of the moving forces behind this publication. Fred's official title, "Creative Director," hardly does justice to the high quality of his energetic contribution but, after all, few great men are recognized in their lifetimes.
