The annual picnic was held on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and our hearty thanks are again extended to Dot and Bill Blanchard '30 for their hospitality. Despite hostile weather conditions, 106 faithful alumni, wives, children, and friends arrived to be greeted by clearing skies, plenty of food, drink, and fun. The brave of the children swam in Bill's freshly-filled pool and even the hardiest turned blue quickly.
Sometime after the first keg had disappeared, election of club officers for the coming year was held. The in-fighting was fierce, but after many thought-provoking moments under the smoke filled tent, the following slate was unanimously elected: Tom Swartz'49, president; Tom Kelsey '54, vice-president; Pete Bixby '51, vice-president; BillHutchison '53, treasurer; John Trimble '58, secretary.
The privilege of these to serve was highlighted by the presence of Brian Mahr '70 who was selected by Bert Englert's '42 group as the recipient of the club's first scholarship award since our fund was established two years ago. Brian graduated from Vailsberg High School in Newark where he was an outstanding student and formidable tennis player. We wish him well.
