The Trustees of the College have appointed Rupert C. Thompson Jr. '28 of Providence, R. 1., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Textron, Inc., as Chairman of a major capital gifts campaign scheduled for the years 1968-1971.

President Dickey, speaking for the Board, said that the proposed campaign would be a major aspect of the College's plans for the celebration of its Bicentennial, and that the planning required made it important to provide top leadership well in advance of the formal campaign.

Mr. Thompson, currently serving as Chairman of the 1966 Dartmouth Alumni Fund, is a former President of the Providence National Bank, and former Executive Vice President of the Industrial National Bank of Rhode Island. He became Chairman of the Executive Committee of Textron, Inc. in 1956, moved to the presidency in 1957, and in 1960 assumed his present position. He is a trustee of the National Industrial Conference Board and a director of the National Association of Manufacturers. He is also a director of Sperry Rand, Fireman's Mutual Insurance Co., and American Research and Development Corp., as well as holding numerous civic and philanthropic posts.
