The Charles E. Hilliker '18 Memorial Endowment Fund has been established at Dartmouth College to provide annual prizes for outstanding essays written by students in the Great Issues Course. The very substantial and perpetuating endowment fund was established by Mr. Hilliker's widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Hilliker of Denver, and by Illinois-California Express, Inc., Denverbased transcontinental motor freight carrier. Mr. Hilliker founded Illinois-California Express and served as its president until his death last June.
The first Hilliker Prizes will be awarded this June. Each student in the required course for seniors must submit an essay at least 3500 words long, giving a critical analysis of one of the themes explored in the course during the year. This year's themes are "War and Peace, Science, Technology and Society," and "Emerging Nations."

Approximately 400 Freshmen Fathers braved the rigors of mid-winter travel to attend the thirteenth annual Freshmen Fathers' Weekend at the College on February 16-18. Dads were here from California and Texas, although no one appeared willing to leave Florida for a taste of a New Hampshire winter. Dickerson '30, Dean of Freshmen; Herbert N. Heston '34 of Smith College, representing the fathers; and President Dickey.
