DARTMOUTH'S 1966 Alumni Fund campaign got off to the finest start in the 52-year history of the Fund as some 4,000 gifts for $200,000 poured into Hanover during the first three campaign weeks - April 1 to April 21. The campaign opened on April 1 with a half million dollars in advance gifts from 2,200 donors, and the April 21 figures showed $701,000 from 6,220 donors.
These totals put the current campaign $50,000 ahead of the 1965 drive despite a decrease of 340 in contributors as of the same date. The 1966 goal is $1,900,000 up $100,000 over last year's goal and $120,000 above 1965's final results.
Alumni Fund Chairman Rupert C. Thompson Jr. '2B termed the early re- sults "highly encouraging," and went on to point out that the Fund's lead was al- most half of the added amount needed to reach the full goal. "We have a good chance to achieve the $1,900,000 goal," Thompson said, "and possibly to come close to the $2-million level. A great deal depends on our fine class agent organiza- tion and the response by our alumni in the remaining weeks."
GREEN DERBY RACES CLOSE
The traditional inter-class Green Derby competition promised the closest races ever, with these classes holding an early lead: Group I (Classes 1906-1915) - Class of 1907, Robert D. Kenyon, Head Agent; Group II (Classes 1916-1922) - Class of 1916, H. Burton Lowe, Head Agent; Group III (Classes 1923-1929) - Class of 1923, Louis V. Wilcox, Head Agent; Group IV (Classes 1930-1936) - Class of 1936, Gilbert Balkam, Head Agent; Group V (Classes 1937-1944) - Class of 1942, Warren G. Kreter, Head Agent; Group VI (Classes 1945-1951) - Class of 1951, Howard K. Read, Head Agent; Group VII (Classes 1952-1958) - Class of 1957, Josiah Stevenson IV, Head Agent; and Group VIII (Classes 1959-1965) Class of 1960, William G. Batt, Head Agent.
Working on this year's campaign are some 3,800 class officers, head agents, newsletter editors, and class agents. More than 800 of these workers, almost 25%, attended class agents' meetings held during late March in nine alumni centers - Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Washington, D. C.
