Roger W. Brown '05 was honored at the luncheon meeting of the Dartmouth class officers in Hanover last month when he received the Fred A. Howland Trophy for his outstanding work as 1905's Head Agent in the 1965 Alumni Fund campaign. In making the presentation, Fund Chairman Rupert C. Thompson Jr. '28 read the following citation at the luncheon:
It is said that the wise champion retires while he still holds the crown and indeed, the rules of the Green Derby competition make you, and the Class of 1905, the wise champion of the Group I Green Derby. Although 1905 is retiring from active Derby competition this year, you are far from resting on your impressively won laurels. Last Spring, in your Class's sixtieth alumni year, you led 1905 to the highest participation and dollar totals in your history. 1905's percentage of objective was second only to that attained by the 50th reunion class and you actually added eight contributors over the 1964 Campaign. These fine records were achieved in the face of a declining class roster. You also serve as Treasurer for your Class, thus collecting twice a year from classmates — no mean feat! For your long and loyal service to your Class and to Dartmouth, and your marvelous achievements during the past two years as Head Class Agent, the Alumni Fund Committee gratefully awards you and your Class of 1905 the Fred A. Howland Trophy as the outstanding Head Agent of a class more than forty years out of College.
