A preliminary report by Addison L. Winship '42, Director of Development, concerning gifts, bequests, and grants for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1967, shows a substantial gain over the previous year in voluntary giving programs directed by his office, $8.4 million compared with $6.9 million. The total, however, was below the $10.3 figure of three years ago when a large item of $4 million in private foundation grants was included.
Including research and project grants from government and private sources, the grand total for 1966-67 was $14.4 million, a gain over the $12.4 million of the year before and the $13.5 million of two years before. The $5.34 million from the federal government was the largest such total ever received by the College.
Among the non-research funds re- ceived last year, alumni giving of $3,633,386 marked a further steady growth in this category, thanks mainly to the record Alumni Fund of $2,101,000. Gifts from Dartmouth parents and relatives of alumni more than doubled to $453,746, and bequests and receipts from trusts in the hands of others, totaling $2,794,272, was the second most productive year in Dartmouth's history for this category of support. Twenty-one new bequests and 14 additional realizations from earlier bequests made up the total.
Corporation gifts of $578,607 was a new high for actual funds received. The total included $47,165 as Dartmouth's share of the New England Colleges Fund. Corporations gave an additional $159,371 in grants for research and other restricted projects.
