In the past ten years the college staff has increased from 800 to 1700 employees, and when part-time and summer employees are added the number on the payroll each year totals more than 3000. The growing complexity of personnel administration has led the College to establish a central, institution-wide Personnel Department to deal with the many problems and to coordinate and improve personnel policies and procedures.
Clarence M. Burrill, who came to Dartmouth last fall as Director of Employee Relations, has been named to head the new department and will operate directly under Treasurer and Vice President John F. Meek '33. Donald W. Cameron '35, who has been responsible for staff personnel administration as well as student placement, will be Associate Director of Employee Relations while continuing his main responsibilities as director of student placement. Mr. Burrill previously was personnel director for Scott and Williams, Inc., in Laconia, N. H., and currently serves on both the advisory council and the appeal tribunal for state unemployment compensation.
Establishment of the new Personnel Department was recommended by the Trustees Planning Committee and approved by the Board of Trustees in recognition of the increasing complexity of personnel administration.
