The Dartmouth I Forensic Union's team of Thomas J. Brewer '68 of Grandville, Mich., and Frederick R. Appelbaum '68 of Canton, Ohio, succeeded in earning second place in Dartmouth's own Twelfth Annual Varsity Invitational Debate Tournament.
Competing against 92 teams from 63 colleges and universities from around the nation the Dartmouth duo gained a 7-1 record in preliminary competition, then won over the University of Miami, M.I.T., and the Naval Academy to go into the finals with Michigan State's team. The Dartmouth debaters dropped the M.S.U. match by a very close 4-3 margin.
The Dartmouth tournament was the second which Brewer and Appelbaum had entered as a team. They placed second in the Air Force Academy Tournament earlier this season, losing in the finals there by another close decision, 3-2.
