On Saturday, March 4, billed as "The Great Day," 378 young ladies, as attractive as they were intelligent, from Wellesley, Smith, Mt. Holyoke, and Colby Junior arrived on campus for discussion of agreed-upon books with 422 Dartmouth undergraduates from all classes.
The program, organized by the student-run Committee on Freshman Reading, involved authors from James Agee to Eugene Zamiatin. Post-discussion activities included dining together in Thayer Hall, films, a coffeehouse in Cutter Hall, and informal entertainment at Hopkins Center.
