Ellie Noyes appeared to be facing a spring season that would be little better than the poor winter track record. Except for strength in the high jump and pole vault, the team appeared to have an uphill fight ahead.
Opening meet was scheduled for April 15, the Boston College Relays, followed by dual meets against Boston University, Harvard, Brown, and Springfield. The spring Heptagonals will be held May 13 at West Point, and the Intercollegiates at the end of May in New York City.
Other spring sports were ready for trial-and-error workouts followed by reasonably stiff schedules for April and May. Lacrosse was to start March 25 against Baltimore, then get into a rugged regional and league schedule commencing April 12 against Holy Cross.
BIG GREEN BITS . . . John Meehan '68 of Reading, Mass., has been elected captain of next year's varsity hockey team. He is a 1963 graduate of Reading High School, where he was hockey and baseball captain and a three-year letterman in football. He was a two-time allstar defenseman in the Middlesex Hockey League and made the Massachusetts All-State baseball second team. Meehan also was captain of his Dartmouth freshman hockey team in 1964-65.
Jeff Garten, a junior from Tampa, Fla., posted the best record in Dartmouth varsity squash this year. He played No. 4 and 5, winning six and losing six overall, including three wins in Ivy League competition. The Dartmouth team failed to win any league matches.
The annual Harvard-Dartmouth Slalom will take place at Tuckerman's Ravine on Saturday, April 22. All alumni skiers are invited to have fun in this informal team competition of unlimited numbers.
