FACTS AND FICTIONS ABOUT COINS.
MAY 1967 DORAN A. JONES

By Leon Lindheim '34. Cleveland, Ohio:The World Publishing Co., 1967. 280 pp.$6.50.

Mr. Lindheim's book is a refreshing change from the usual run-of-the-mill books on coins, which are mainly concerned with the investment return, or the value to a dealer of some of the rarer specimens which seldom appear in circulation. Such books appeal to those people whose main interest in the hobby is mercenary, rather than the enjoyment afforded by serious collection of coins.

however, we have a fascinating collection of odds and ends of numismatic knowledge, covering the whole range of collecting, from the coins of the Classical period to the present day, including many little-known items which may have escaped the notice of the average collector. I am sure it will become the source book for many a numismatic quiz in coin clubs all over the country.

Its merits, which are many, more than offset a minor criticism of this reader. I feel that a chronological arrangement would have facilitated researching information. Otherwise, the format is excellent; the bibliography, though short, is adequate and provides extracurricular reading for the serious student.

The volume is well indexed, and the many photographs enhance the nearly 300 pages of this interesting book. It has an appeal for the numismatic student as well as the casual collector, and makes worthwhile reading for the curious layman. Mr. Lindheim is to be congratulated on the compilation of this collection of numismatic items. I am sure that it must have afforded him as much pleasure in researching as it will many thousands of readers in the future.
