Al Murray lives in fear. Moving from Washington to New York as senior economist for the First National City Bank and editor of its Monthly Economic Letter, he writes, "I live in fear of the day when I am responsible for some awful mistake which is then given worldwide circulation," in six languages, no less. But Al also confesses that the new work is "challenging and enjoyable." Al and Carolyn live in Larchmont, and he says the northerly location gave them "a chance to visit with the RonMurphys this summer in Philadelphia," and also "has given me a chance to renew acquaintance with Lou Miano and Bob MacFadyen."

Mat Smith's wife Sandee comes right to the point: "Well, here we are, 13 years out of Dartmouth and the old boy has finally gone to work." After medical school, internship, residency, Air Force, and more residency, "Mathew Smith, M.D., is in practice!" His specialty is neurosurgery, and his office is in Arlington, Va. "He and his associates cover about nine hospitals in the northern Virginia area," according to Sandee. The Smiths had their third child, Laurin, on August 7. They recently saw Al Schwartz, who's stationed at nearby Fort Belvoir, and would be delighted to see other '55s living in the Washington area or just passing through it. "The Smith way-station welcomes friends of Dartmouth," Sandee writes. (Keep those cards and letters coming in, girls.)

Another new arrival, announced in Spanish from San Salvador: Langdon McEvoy Doty, born on Viernes, 20 de Septiembre de 1968, to Peter and Margaret Doty. Pete's an accountant with Price Waterhouse. Margot and Henry Neuberger, who are in Newton Corner, Mass., welcomed their first son, Matthew, on May 1. They also have a daughter, Kathryn Linda, born just 14 short months earlier. Wanda and Tuck Creamer had their fourth, Catherine, in August. They live in La Jolla, Calif., and Tuck has also become the proud (though non-voting) holder of stock in Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith.

Wes Bruner married Nancyanne Owens, a University of Maryland graduate, on April 26. They live in Kensington, Md., and "have set up house with two dogs."

Spud Mansur was named regional manager of a newly-established New England regional office of the American Policyholders' Insurance Co. He's been with the company for 10 years. The new office is in the company's headquarters at Wakefield, Mass. Jay Whitehair, who's been assistant dean of the College since 1964, is now assistant director of financial aid.

Jim Wechsler returned to New Hampshire from the Washington office of Rep. James Cleveland to become director of the State News Service, which supplies news and feature articles to seven New Hampshire dailies. Jim formerly was political editor and state house reporter for one of the seven, the Concord Monitor, and spent the last two years as Congressman Cleveland's administrative assistant, as he puts it, "to observe the Washington area of activity to enable me to better understand the capital's relations with New Hampshire."

Lots of job changes these days. TomRoulston reports from Cleveland that PeteBuhler has moved there as a partner in McKinsey & Co., the big management consulting firm. Bill Cassell received a master of science degree in education from the University of Southern California and became director of planning in U.S.C.'s school of education. Bill Wilbur left Colgate-Palmolive after 10 years to become general manager of Salada Foods. His office is in Wobum, Mass., 15 minutes from his home in Andover, Mass. "It's great to get away from New York City and the commuting," he reports. Steve Little left the Rhode Island Hospital Trust Co. to become a registered representative with G. H. Walker and Co. in Providence. He's also the new national enrollment chairman for Rhode Island.

Bill Bassett is now with the architectural firm of Price & Dickey in Philadelphia, and he's in charge of "several restoration projects at Monmouth Battlefield State Historic Park in New Jersey and at Norwood in Pennsylvania. I had a crew of three draftsmen making measured drawings of the second floor of Independence Hall this past summer prior to restoration there." MikeFletcher moved from the Air Force in Labrador to IBM in Poughkeepsie, as a systems programmer with the company's System Development division. "Quite a change," he finds. Bill Hudson was appointed manager of a Sears store in Bethlehem, Pa., just seven miles from his previous store. He reports reliably that the new place is "a small store, but there are those who love it."

Dick LeBoeuf became vice president and eastern regional manager of Pacific Outdoor Advertising Co.; his office is in New York. Jim Wiggin was initiated into the American College of Surgeons in October. Sandy Phillips is in New Orleans as a senior petroleum geologist for Humble Oil & Refining, responsible for development of several oil fields located 30 to 100 miles offshore.

John Ballard has leaped into entrepreneuring in a big way. He set up his own company, Technology for Communication International, specializing in antennas for long distance radio communication. "We now have 30 employees, five of whom are Ph.D.'s - and lots of excitement," he writes. John lives in Los Altos Hills, Calif.

Your correspondent, after a frantic fall campaign with the successful candidate for governor of Illinois, Richard B. Ogilvie (a Yale man), is now the press secretary for the embryonic Ogilvie administration and will be moving to Springfield in January.
