J. William Petty III '54, president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Cincinnati, was honored as Club President of the Year at the annual meeting of Dartmouth club officers in Hanover on November 8. Following is the citation which accompanied the award:
After four years service as Secretary, the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Cincinnati had the foresight to elect you President in 1967. That's hardly a subtle though obviously suitable way to retain experience, talent, and leadership.
Though Cincinnati is a small club, it has never held back from tackling major programs nor "thinking big." Last year 113 attended the annual dinner, and your luncheon series including speakers from the College and community attracted excellent attendance. In September your club sponsored the first Alumni Seminar held East of the Mississippi, the success of which suggests it was just the beginning.
You are a firm believer in the value of communications. Frequent newsletters, the telephone committee, and personal contacts, combine to boost participation and enjoyment in all events.
The Club has a growing scholarship fund as witnessed by the fact that $lOOO was added the last time the Glee Club sang in Cincinnati. In fact enrollment-oriented activities are a vital part of the overall club program.
We know that Dartmouth is just one of your continuing interests, for you have been District Chairman of the United Appeal since 1956, active in your church, and since returning from the Marine Corps you have moved up through the ranks of Procter and Gamble to your present position as Associate Advertising Manager.
As fellow club officers, Bill, we are proud of your service to the College and are pleased to recognize you as Dartmouth Club President of the Year.
