As Dartmouth's 1968 Alumni Fund entered its second month, the results showed that some 8,750 donors had contributed $870,000 toward the $2,101,560 goal. This put the current drive some 100 donors ahead of last year, but the dollar total trailed last year's pace by $35,000. The average gift was also below that of last year by $6.00.
Despite this somewhat slow start in April, Fund Chairman Ralph Lazarus '35 was still confident that the 1968 effort would achieve the desired goal by June 30. "Current studies show that we have more increased gifts than decreases by a two-to-one margin," he reports, "and we also have a number of new gifts. We continue to have some understandable attrition at the major gift level which the Fund Committee is working to overcome. Our 4000-man Class Agents or- ganization is also increasing its individual efforts, so I think we will see an upturn during May."
The traditional interclass Green Derby competition at the end of the first lap had these classes leading in their respective groups: Group I — 1911, Wee Kimball, Head Agent; Group II — 1918, Tom Bryant; Group III - 1926, All Louer; Group IV — 1935, Cramp Carrick; Group V—1942, John Nauss; Group VI - 1952, John Klein; Group VII — 1957, Bill Kramer; and Group VIII — 1961, Bill Hutton.
