Nicholas Krushenick, distinguished American painter, is at Hopkins Center for ten weeks during the fall term as artist-in-residence. He is preparing his one-man show which will open on November 21 in the Jaffe-Friede Gallery in the Center.
According to Prof. Matthew Wysocki, Director of Visual Studies, Krushenick's interests extend beyond that of a painter, for he has also been active as a graphic artist, costume and stage designer, and teacher. His most recently completed commission is a large painting for the new State Building in Albany, N.Y., and he is currently working on two new commis- sions, a large painting for the lobby of the Kennedy Theater and a poster for the 1972 Olympics to be held in Munich, Germany.
Krushenick studied at the Art Students League and the Hans Hoffman School, both in New York City. At that time he experimented with Abstract Expressionism, but his present style may be described as spacious and brilliantly colored patterns resembling greatly enlarged netting or basketry.
