The last two months saw several Dartmouth events for the Oregon alums. Last month President Sam Martin '27 provided his hospitality and summer weather at his Salmon River home for the annual family picnic. John Swanson '70 and Alan Denisoa'69 told incoming freshmen Mark Miller and Gary Ball "what it's like" on campus while the older alums reminisced about what it was like. The John Butler '45 family took most of the horseshoe honors while the FredLockyears '59 and the Martins managed to provide ample food and drink for all. Also attending the enjoyable Sunday afternoon affair were John Catlett '66, the James Gilchrist '61 family, Gordon Evans '57 and his family and the Paul Woelfel '27 family.

This month Eddie Chamberlain '36 and Sam Smith, the new admissions officer for this area, met with Bob Conklin '60 and his enrollment committee in a working session to describe the current campus scene and its impact on enrollment work. Topics of interest included the minorities programs, the ROTC decision and the coed question. The enrollment regulars attending who will be working with Sam Smith and Bob Conklin this year included Cam Richardson '52, Chip Johnstone '63, John Butler, Sam Martin and myself among others. Any others interested in helping in this year's efforts should contact Bob Conklin.

Later that evening, the same group, this time led by Harold Hirsch '29 and BlakeHering '53 met with Vice President of the College, Ort Hicks '21, to discuss the general campaign portion of the Third Century Fund. Ort presented us with the world premiere showing of the 1969 graduation "flicks" and enthralled us with recent Dartmouth honors. With all this, and the commemorative medal, and the Dartmouth stamp, perhaps Playboy magazine has something when it refers to Dartmouth as "the nostalgia center of the U.S."
