Our educators make the news this month. Jim LeSure, who has won widespread recognition for his work in teacher certification, joined the University of Hartford, as associate professor of education. He will direct the University's certification training program.

Sandy Brown returned to Hanover as a guest lecturer during the Dartmouth Physics Colloquium. He spoke on the flamboyant life of Count Rumford, an 18th century physicist, whose life Sandy is chronicling in a seven-volume biography. This past year, Sandy took leave of absence from his duties as associate dean of graduate studies at MIT, to finish volume five. Only two to go!

Also, back in Hanover this fall is MauryRapf, whose seminar on motion pictures is an ever-popular freshman choice.

The College has a glowing report on two recipients of the Milburn McCarty Memorial Scholarship. William Lee Jr. '69, graduated Magna Cum Laude, with high distinction in English and a long list of academic honors. The latest recipient, Donald S. Fussell '73, is from Richardson, Texas, and earned high scholastic honors at Richardson High School. His area of specialization will be Earth Science and astronomy.

Bud Hulett is commuting between Key Biscayne and Detroit these days, but hastens to add that President Nixon has nothing to do with it. "We've had a home there for 12 years - long before he discovered it."

Ben Harriman telephoned from the airport, en route to the Twin Cities to visit daughter Alice (Mrs. James Stockton) and small grandson. He and Mary-Stuart were in the States on semi-annual leave from London, where Ben is stationed with 3-M Com- pany.

We have now added a fourth to our London contingent. A note from the college indicates that Steve Brooks is stationed there as a motion picture producer for National General Corporation. Others in the British capital are the Harrimans, Lamoreys, and Flemings.

Kelly Hamilton and his new bride, Millie, took the grand tour of the USA this fall. First to Florida, then to the West Coast tq visit Millie's sister and inspect a waterfront lot they have purchased at Harbour Heights. Kelly writes that his oldest daughter is married to an Army captain, now stationed in Germany. Son James is a junior at Rider College, and daughter Susan a high school junior.

Tom Lane, Fitz Donnell, and Bill Mathers had quite a reunion in Hawaii this fall. Tom and Ginny were vacationing with Fitz and Mimi, when Bill came through on his way to the Philippines. Tom writes: "We played golf every day for a week. As you remember, Bill was a scratch golfer in college and still shoots with a few strokes of par. It took all of my high handicap (and negotiating skill) to separate him from a few bucks." He adds that Fitz and Mimi have the most fabulous home in Honolulu. A spectacular penthouse atop the tallest building in Oahu, with a view that's out of this world.

Bob Naramore called to update the class on several of our widows. Ruth Richmond and Ginny Ullman both are in Northampton, Mass. Ruth is a librarian at Smith College and her daughter and son-in-law live in nearby Avon, Conn. Ginny is doing volunteer work at Cooley-Dickinson Hospital, where Jack Gilbert is pathologist. Bob Lovegrove's widow, now Mrs. Philip Owen, is living in Albuquerque, N. M. Bob's son, Robert Jr., is majoring in forestry economics at Ft. Collins, Colo. As a final note, the unflappable Mr. Naramore reports that he won closest-to-the-hole in a tournament at West Hartford, Conn., but forgot to collect his prize when he saw Ginny Steinle Missinger and her husband in the gallery.

A sad note from Chick Eldridge reveals that his only son, Tom, was killed December 29, 1965, while flying an A-4 Skyhawk, in Viet Nam. "Since then, we have been on a day-to-day schedule, without any planning." Chick operates the Eldridge Pharmacy and a general insurance agency in Rouses Point, N. Y., and says he still plays in a dance band, to keep his fingers from becoming arthritic.

The Class will also be saddened to learn of the death of Bob Hubbard, who died of leukemia nearly a year ago. Bob had been Western New York divisional auditor for Reliance Insurance Company, and had lived in Buffalo for the past 15 years. Our sympathy goes to his widow, Olive.

From Waterbury, Conn., comes word that Lester Greene will serve as deputy director of that city's Community Development Action Plan. This is a state-funded program for long-range planning, designed to correct Waterbury's urban blight.

Ken Hart has retired from Kraft Foods, and bought a new home in Sarasota, Fla. Others whom you may want to look up this winter, on Florida vacations, are: Charlie Winkler, Ormond Beach; John Williams, De Land; Will Kempton and George McKearin, Ft. Lauderdale; Duke Mills, Winter Park; Merwin Mcintosh, Deerfield Beach; John Thompson, Key West; George Cook, Miami; Al Van Leuvan, Pompano Beach; Sandy Stein, Vero Beach; and Roily Kendall, St. Petersburg.

Bill Mathers, Fitz Donnell, and TomLane, all '35, by Fitz' penthouse pool, atop Honolulu's tallest skyscraper.
