Victories in the final three games against Yale, Brown, and Harvard brought the Indians' record to 10-15, the best since 1959-60. Of equal interest is the fact that seven of the losses were by four points or less.

Alex Winn, the talented 6-7 forward, capped the season with a 30-point performance in an 83-71 victory over Harvard that put the Green into sixth place in the final Ivy League standings. Winn hit five of his first six shots in the game to spur the triumph and erase memories of numerous close and frustrating losses for Coach Dave Gavitt's squad.

A week before, the Indians swept their first Ivy League weekend series in nine years, defeating Yale for the first time in 18 games, 74-62, and then trimming Brown, 63-50. Against the Bruins, Dartmouth made 13 of 19 field-goal attempts in the second half to pull away.

Winn's torrid scoring ranked him fourth in the final Ivy League statistics. His average of 20.2 points in 25 games makes him only the third player in Dartmouth cage history to average more than 20 points in a season. Steve Spahn hit 23 points per game in 1961-62 and George Ramming averaged 20.1 in 1960-61. Winn's 505 points for the season put him with Spahn (553) and Rudy LaRusso (529) as Dartmouth's three men to pass the 500-point mark in a season.

"I don't feel you can judge a team by its record," said Gavitt. "These young men played to their maximum capability and it's to their credit that they closed with victories which helped make up for some tough losses earlier in the season."

There are no seniors on this basketball team. Greg Pickering, the captain, is a junior who led the Indians in rebounding and assists for the second year in a row. He and sophomore guard Joe Cook will rank high among New England's unsung heroes this season for their consistent, determined efforts. Cook was the second leading scorer with a 9.1-point average.
