With three Dartmouth Board of Trustees vacancies occurring at the same time in July 1971, the nominating committee of the Dartmouth Alumni Council is encouraging the participation of the alumni at large in the nominating procedure. The following is a communication to the alumni from committee chairman John H. Hatheway ’48, senior vice president of Young & Rubicam, New York City:
“Three vacancies will occur in Trustee membership via expiration of five-year terms as of July 1971. Those whose terms will end are John D. Dodd ’22, William E. Buchanan ’24, and Robert S. Oelman ’31.
“Nominations for these vacancies are made by the alumni of the College through the Alumni Council. As chairman of the Nominating Committee of the Council, I am anxious to receive suggestions for nominations from interested alumni so that our committee may have ample time to review carefully the qualifications of all those whose names are submitted.
“The procedure we encourage is the submission of suggestions in writing to any of the following members of the committee;
Ernest L. Barcella ’34, General Motors Corp., Suite 804, 1660 L Street, N. W., Washington, D. C. 20036.
Dero A. Saunders ’35, Forbes Magazine, 60 Fifth Ave., New York, N. Y. 10011.
Paul B. Urion ’3B, Box 2115, 69 South Main St., Rochester, N. H. 03867.
Robert H. Zeiser ’49, 28 Harlem St., Rumford, R. I. 02916. Vincent W. Jones ’52, Sears Roe- buck & Cos., 5300 El Prado Ave., Long Beach, Calif. 90815.
J. Michael McGean ’49, Secretary of the College, 206 Crosby Hall, Hanover, N. H. 03755.
John H. Hatheway ’4B, Young & Rubicam, Inc., 285 Madison Ave., New York, N. Y. 10017.
“After study of all candidates, the committee will submit its recommenda- tions to the Alumni Council at the January 1971 meeting. After action, these nominations will be publicized to the alumni in the Alumni Magazine. Final action of the Council will occur in June 1971 and nominations will then be transmitted to the Board.
“In way of information, the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth College is a working board, with four full-scale weekend meetings of the entire board in Hanover each year, plus working com- mittee assignments. Therefore, time, along with concern, wisdom, dedication and objectivity, is a primary requisite for membership.
“We urge the thoughtful participa- tion of the alumni in this important procedure and, in turn, we assure you that each submission will be carefully and objectively considered.”
