On May 27, 35 members and wives of the Dartmouth Club of Eastern Ohio gathered at the University Club in Akron to discuss with three representatives of the College recent events on campus associated with the war in Indonesia. The college representatives were Dr. Al Converse, Associate Professor of Engineering at Thayer School, Joe Adams ’70, and John Noretto ’72.
After the initial presentation by Dr. Converse, a spirited question period followed in which the alumni attempted to learn the rationale behind the recent College and student actions. The club members were not completely in sympathy with the answers they received, and this was clearly conveyed to the College’s emissaries. In spite of the differences of opinion, we believed that the College made an excellent decision by making faculty and students available to talk with alumni groups. This was an expedient way to make each group aware of the other’s position on these important matters.
