1970 Summer Term Expands Its Offerings
APRIL 1970

The 1970 Dartmouth Summer Term will run from June 28 to August 22. With about a one-to-one male-female ratio, the summer program has been described as the College's only truly coeducational term. Course offerings are open to undergraduate and graduate students as well as to a limited number of high school honor students.

Sixty-four courses will be offered this year in all divisions of the College - the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences. The cancellation of the Congregation of the Arts this summer has eliminated only courses in drama and music. As in previous years, visiting artists will be on campus and studio art courses will be offered, including a new one in photography at an advanced level.

A number of the courses offered this summer have direct relevance to contemporary life. In the Geography Department, for example, a course in the Population Challenge will explore the causes and implications of the exploding human population. Three of the History Department's course offerings will be especially current: Black America, War and Peace in the Twentieth Century, and Revolution and Social Change. In the Education Department, Educational Issues in Contemporary Society will consider the problems of today in that field, while in the Economics Department, Industrial Organization and Public Policy will look at the market structure and its consequences. A very successful course in previous years, The Computer for Everyman, will again be offered by the Mathematics Department.

The study of foreign languages will continue to be an important part of the summer program. On campus, intensive language courses will be offered in French, German, and Spanish. These courses are equivalent to two college semesters of foreign language. The Study Abroad Programs have been expanded this year to include one in Mexico as well as in France and Russia.

In Hanover students will find a wide variety of activities in which to participate through the Outing Club, Ledyard Canoe Club, Film Society, WDCR, and other organizations.
