Under the veteran leadership of Gus Aberle '55 and Nate Parker Jr. '52 our local group was sparked by excellent work done by a few talented rookies. The annual father and son Christmas lunch was managed by Tom Gibson '64 who toils for "Business Week." About 35 alumni, undergraduates, and fathers enjoyed good food and fellowship at Kaufmann's dining room. We heard an excellent report from SandyFerguson '70 regarding his role in helping to select the new college president. This writer has attended these lunches for twenty years and I think Sandy is the most articulate undergrad I have heard.
This year we had a first, a female at the meeting, Judith Sutton, Smith '71, who is a coed at Hanover, and her father joined us. A little pulchritude helps perk up any Dartmouth meeting.
The annual dinner in February was, in spite of trying difficulties, a fine success, thanks to the effort of John McConnochie'64. Over fifty of us enjoyed a social hour and roast beef with the trimmings at Morewood Gardens dining room on Carnegie Tech campus, where McConnochie is working on his Ph.D. Coach Blackman was the featured speaker. No need to say more. He is a great one. Coach presented the Alumni Award to Nate Parker Sr. '26, who is often referred to as "Mr. Dartmouth" in Pittsburgh.
A few new faces were welcomed by Gus and the other members of the Old Guard. These included Jere Hawkins '62, Bill Boadie '67, Alan Nadel '64, and Jim Roche '65. We are happy to have these fellows aboard.
Our enrollment and interviewing worK this year is under the capable direction of Phil Langtry '56, an extremely hard-working and conscientious guy. If you want to help contact Phil at PPG Industries main offices. It is an interesting and rewarding experience to talk to these high school boys.
