I won't "gild the lily" by adding much to that wonderful job Butts Lamson did on the Class Letter. But here are a few items not covered.

I have to add to the burden of sorrow many of us feel as the list of our departed friends grows. You saw six in last month's issue and now I am filing three more: Clif Blake, Shrimp Thornton, and Henry Steele. To that, it is proper for me to make record of the passing of Norma Maloney, Red's wife, mid-March — after a very long and serious illness at home, in hospitals, and at their lovely South Duxbury home. The funeral was March 14 and about fifty persons attended, including my son Jonathan to represent Margaret and myself who could not be there. This was a long ordeal for all. Their son, Jerry, has moved East to live in the S. Duxbury home. Further details are not available at present but I hope for a brief note in the next Class Letter.

Briefs: Alex Gibson is now home after having a heart infarction while he and May Bess were on a routine trip in connection with his retirement activities as a teacher of French; all well now after this early March surprise. ... From the coast, reunion plans have been changed for two who came on together for our 40th: Keith Drake now plans to attend the Alumni College instead, having a conflict at reunion-time; and Ned Mansure has been persuaded by Bob Hall to come and join us. (Ned's wife, Judy, does less with her famous collie kennel and more with Appaloosas - and gardening.) No retirement here for either.... Dana Bent and Gretchen were in St. Croix recently and there —in the same condominium - was our own Ed Hawley and Aileen, from Danbury, Conn. As usual: "small world"!...

The new picture by Stu Eldredge for the next edition of birthday cards for next year is being processed; Stu and Marion left April 5 for their beloved Italy, to see two new grandchildren in Florence; then on to Rome, England and Ireland; all aided by daughter Mary —an unofficial "tour director" for them to see as much as possible on this trip. They plan to be back for reunion — but it is not certain; Stu will be teaching again in Manchester, Vt., in July and August. ... Rolie Taylor has been retired since the first of the year, around the corner from Al Robinson. ... Ralph Miller Jr. continues to add to his medical laurels, this time with a doctorate in physiology to go with his research work. (News clipping had it otherwise ... a lesser degree in another field.)

Two more items: Be sure to be counted in the Alumni Fund; we lose out by relatively fewer participants rather than in total dollars ... but of course need both. And be added to the very fine list of those who will be here in June for our 45th; send in a deposit in the envelope you've recently received.
