Gerald G. Garbacz '58, who is Director of Long-Range Planning for the Boise Cascade Corporation in Idaho, was a White House Fellow in 1968-69 and spent the year as special assistant to Secretaries of Defense Clark M. Clifford and Melvin R. Laird. Most of his time was devoted to developing program criteria and establishing pilot projects for ways in which the Defense Department could help in the solution of domestic problems.

Mr. Garbacz, a former resident of Summit, N. J., attended Dartmouth for one year and then entered the U.S. Naval Academy, from which he was graduated in 1959. He served four years as a Marine Corps infantry officer in the U. S. and Far East and is now a Major in the Marine Corps Reserves. Following this service, he returned to Dartmouth for two years as a Tuck School student and received his M.B.A. with highest distinction in 1965.

He recently took his position with Boise Cascade after four years with the Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Ind.
