Bequest Chairman of the Year
JUNE 1970

At the meeting of class officers in Hanover on May 2 Thomas Willard Towler '13 was honored as Bequest Chairman of the Year. The following tribute to his services to Dartmouth was read at the gathering:

Thomas Willard Towler of the Class of 1913, your distinguished career in advertising and publishing now spans 55 years, including 28 years as publisher of Hearst's class magazine, Town andCountry, until you retired in 1966. Full retirement, however, was not your "bag" as you continue to be publishing representative of the British, German and Italian editions of Hearst's Harper's Bazaar. Proving that youth is a state of mind, not one of chronology, you have also recently taken on advertising representation for a host of college and university alumni magazines, including those of the Ivy League, Big Ten, MIT, Harvard Business School, and many others.

Since your graduation you have been a loyal and devoted son of Dartmouth and have renewed your fond association with the College on the Hill by frequent returns to the Hanover Plain. In bygone years you were Class President and successfully topped your quota as Head Class Agent for the Alumni Fund by having an ample supply of blank checks available at the class reunion banquet. You have continued this impressive Fund work more recently as an Assistant Class Agent. You were a co-founder and three-time president of the Dartmouth Club of New York and have for years served your College fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, as a trustee. As chairman of 1913's rousing 50th Reunion you walked off with two trophies. For these and other evidences of your love and service for the College, you deservedly received, in 1968, Dartmouth's coveted Alumni Award.

Today, however, we honor you as Bequest Chairman of the Class of 1913, a job you have filled with distinction since 1963. The typical enthusiasm and conscientious zeal you continue to put into this work have ensured that 1913 will contribute importantly to the Bequest Program's impressive support for Dartmouth. Practicing what you preach, you have established two fine life income trusts at the College.

Now, in honor of your service as Bequest Chairman of your class and in recognition of a lifetime of devoted effort on Dartmouth's behalf, the Association of Bequest and Estate Planning Chairmen is proud to proclaim you as Bequest Chairman of the Year.
