Leroy Keith, Katherine S. Ragone, and Steven S. Tourek '70 have been appointed Assistant Deans of the College for the 1971-72 academic year. Desmond E. Canavan has been named Assistant Dean for Administration at the Thayer School.
Mr. Canavan, who has been Executive Officer at Thayer for the past nine years, joined the engineering school staff after a 30-year career in the United States Marine Corps. His last assignment was as commanding officer of the Dartmouth Naval ROTC. An alumnus of the University of Washington, he has done graduate work at the University of New Hampshire, Northwestern, and Long Beach State College in California. He held the rank of Colonel when he retired from the Marines in 1962.
When he announced the appointment, Thayer School Dean David V. Ragone noted that Mr. Canavan's duties would remain essentially the same. The change in title, he said, is "an effort to recognize his excellence in performing them."
Mr. Keith, an Assistant Professor of Education, is a 1961 graduate of Morehouse College. He holds master of science and doctor of education degrees from the University of Indiana. Before coming to Dartmouth last fall as a faculty member in education and director of the Tucker Foundation Interns, he had been a public school teacher in his home town of Chattanooga, Tenn.
Mrs. Ragone, a Middlebury College graduate, was a lecturer in chemistry for six years at the University of Michigan. Her husband is the Thayer School Dean.
Mr. Tourek, a Phi Beta Kappa student at Dartmouth, was a student at the Yale Law School last year. He is a native of West St. Paul, Minn.
