The first Annual Picnic of the Dartmouth Club of New Canaan, Ridgefield, Wilton, was held on Sunday, June 6. On a balmy summer-like day, forty Dartmouth men, their families and friends (140 strong) assembled on the front lawn of Waveny. Waveny is a 300 acre estate which was bought by New Canaan for recreational purposes. An Ail-American menu of hamburgers and hot dogs along with a variety of splendid salads was coordinated by Dave Walton's '55 lovely and well-organized wife, Alice.
Several new faces were seen at the Picnic including: Phil Swaim '37, Bruce Jones'43, John Weeks '44, Charlie Kilner '49, and Tom Myers '54. Markey Pullen '22and Ross Pearl '25, as usual, joined in the festivities. Kim Morris '64, our sports coordinator, and Tom Harrington '55 assembled girls and boys for the threelegged race. Mothers and fathers joined in at soft ball and the egg throw. The latter event was won by Bruce Cole '55, our president, and his son. To everyone's delight, the Good Humor man drove across the lawn at just the right time. The popularity of such a family day portends a "Second Annual" next year.
Dudley Smith '60, our out-going treasurer, has been promoted by Chubb and Son and has moved to Minneapolis with his family. Our club thanks Dudley for a very dedicated and competent job.
At the picnic, most of our club members met John Van Benschoten, Jr. '73, who will be our Club's Student Liaison Officer. We were also very pleased to have as our guests two future members of the Class of 1975; Mike Trolle, whose dad, Tim '51, is a member of our club, and John LeMoal.
Sabin Danziger '64, immediate past president of the Long Island Club, receivedthe club's Tomahawk Award in June. With him (I to r) are Mike Pender '47,secretary; Trustee Charles J. Zimmerman'23, former award winner; and TomKirby '6O, new club president.
