Kenneth H. Thomas '21 of the Dartmouth Club of Central Florida was named Club Secretary of the Year at the annual awards program of the Dartmouth Club Officers Association, November 12 in Hanover. Although he was unable to be present, the following citation was read at the Association dinner:
One of the curious anomalies of the age was your move to Florida from Chicago where for 30 years, as a disciple of John L. Lewis, you sold and shouted the praises of solid fuel. In the absence of a market for any kind of fuel in Winter Park, another anomaly, you began to work full time for the College, your avocation for the past 50 years, and soon after your arrival you became Secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Central Florida.
The club has had a most successful 25th Anniversary Year, celebrated particularly at a ladies luncheon. Your six luncheon-breakfast meetings, the annual meeting, and the entertainment of the track team which trained in Winter Park involved an ever-increasing number of Dartmouth people and explains your eagerness to sponsor the coming Glee Club Concert. You placed six copies of TheCollege on the Hill in two public and four high school libraries. You participated in a joint luncheon with area alumni in Daytona Beach where you fostered the idea of a Dartmouth Club in that city. You almost doubled your dues and had a 20 percent increase in the number of dues-paying alumni, proving that there is no freeze on Dartmouth participation and support in Central Florida.
This outstanding activity just did not happen. It was well planned and executed and the secret weapon of this successful campaign was communication. Your ingenuity and your sincere notices and letters to the alumni were responsible, in a large measure, for the success of Central Florida's 25th Anniversary Year.
In the Dartmouth tradition we honor you for your valuable service to the College with the Award as the Dartmouth Club Secretary of the Year.
