Old Mother Hubbard and I have a great deal in common! A bare cupboard to be exact! I've got this file marked "ALUMNI MAG—Unused Material" and at this time of year the pickings is mighty slim. A few faded Xerox copies of outdated press releases, a couple of chicken scratched notes of questionable origin and legibility, and some photographs without names and stories to go with them. I suppose I could just publish the entire mess in sort of puzzle form permitting you to mix 'em and match 'em, but I dare say that the ALUMNI MAG would have a helluva time setting the type, and maybe even refuse to run the class' news in the future. But since you all remember what happened to Old Ma Hubbard, don't let it happen again.
Now I have to play favorites a little bit because one of the strongest sources I have for news is our illustrious treasurer. Richard D. Barker. To fail to do so would be like biting the hand that feeds you. But word has just reached me that Dick was recently named assistant to the president of Grahm Junior College in Boston and Dick's duties will be in the areas of administration, advertising and admissions. Formerly, Dick was vice president of operations at Andover Institute of Business where he also held down the posts of treasurer and director, and had charge of personnel administration, data processing systems, fiscal control, and accreditation qualification. Dick and his wife Barbara and their children make their home in Wakefield, Mass.
In a late edition of the Harvard Business School Bulletin there appeared an article concerning the first father and son combination to have attended the Advanced Management Program. The father Joseph D. Farrell attended the 19th AMP having been sent by his employer The First National City Bank in the spring of 1951. The son—Neal J. Farrell attended the 59th AMP in December, 1970 having been sent there by the Chase Manhattan Bank which he joined in 1956 in Chase's Special Development Training Program. During the past 14 years he has risen from credit analyst to vice president and branch manager of the bank's 44th Street & Fifth Avenue office. Neal lives in Westfield, N. J., with his wife, three sons, and a daughter. Today, his father is senior credit officer at the Fidelity Union Trust Company in Newark, N. J.
Another banker in our class is GeorgeHume III who in January was promoted to the rank of assistant cashier at the National Bank of Commerce in Memphis, Tenn. George is a native of Memphis and joined the bank in 1969. In an industry not given to quick elevations, George's promotion is quite noteworthy.
Clark (Skip) Weymouth Jr. who used to make music for us many years ago, has left Johnson & Johnson's Hospital & Professional Division in New Brunswick, N. J., and has joined The Quarry, Inc., in Ann Arbor, Mich., as sales manager. Quarry distributes physicians' and hospital supplies and Skip, ibis wife Carol, and their three children have relocated in Ann Arbor.
Up in Hanover Daniel J. McCarthy, president of Computer Environment Corporation, announced the sale of Dartmouth Printing Company to South Shore Publishing Co., Inc. of North Scituate, Mass. CEC is principally engaged in educational activities and operates several schools in the Northeast. Dartmouth Printing is engaged in printing various medical and physical science journals as well as the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE and other college publications. The sale was made, according to Dan, to permit CEC to concentrate its energies in its educational programs.
John P. Dabney M.S.S.W., together with his wife Jane, has for some years practiced adolescent, adult, and family psychotherapy in Daly City, Calif. With California being the fastest growing state in terms of population it was only a question of time before services such as those offered by the Dabneys would have to expand, and so the Dabneys have opened a second office, this one in Burlingame, Calif. Jane carries a M.S.W. after her name and with their collective degrees and skills I wouldn't be a bit surprised to read of additional offices opening in years to come.
I recently wrote about Kevin I. Sullivan and his doings at the Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company in Buffalo, N. Y. Kev wrote the College to please correct the record effective March 10, for he has now moved to the Bank of Buffalo as executive vice president. I am pleased that we can make the correction so quickly, and doubly pleased to report Kev's continued progress.
