Book Prizes Established

The Friends of the Dartmouth Library have established a series of prizes to be awarded annually to undergraduates for outstanding effort and achievement in special book-related projects.

Three prizes of $100 each will be awarded for excellence in book collecting, the art of the book, and bibliography, according to Richard H. Mandel '26, chairman of the group, which numbers some 700 active supporters of the Library.

The book collecting prize will be awarded on the basis of quality rather than quantity, recognizing the execution of a deliberate program of acquisition of books or manuscripts within a prescribed scope.

The project demonstrating the highest degree of excellence in matters relating to book design, typography, graphics, illustration, and other aspects of the physical book will be awarded the prize in the art of the book category.

The bibliography prize will be given for scholarly research and productivity centering on descriptive bibliography, textual criticism, or archival organization.
